The Govt. College Attingal Department of Polymer Chemistry was established in 1995. In the same year, the college began offering graduate courses in polymer chemistry. In 2012, a postgraduate programme in polymer chemistry was initiated. With 146 students and 7 teachers, the department currently employs 153 people. There are currently over 500 alumni in the department, most of whom are well-placed. Each year, 14 students enrol in the MSc, and 36 students enrol in B Sc.

Participation in Institutional Social Responsibility (ISR) and Extension Activities
- The department’s instructors and students actively take part in the college’s regular and special camping programme.
- SMT Thushara R. is the convenor of the Science Club, which is run by the department.
- In honour of World AIDS Day, a discussion was held.
- Members of the science club posted a weekly Science News Letter about scientific events on the notice board.
- In collaboration with RUSA, our college hosted a three-day science exhibition called “SASTRAYAN.” Students actively participated in this exhibition, creating posters, charts, working models, and still models. Under Sri’s supervision, science-related videos were also shown in the smart classroom. Sudheer B.
- To spark students’ interest in science and chemistry through engaging chemistry experiments and a lab class for local schoolchildren.
